ROWING

POVERTY BAY CLUB The second series of races for the Clayton Cup, were held last evening by the’Poverty Bay Rowing Club. ’ G. Ardern (2sec.) and iN. ’Pickett (fisec.) met in. the first race. From a good start Ardern 'made tho most of his handicap, but Ardern drew level before reaching the Derby street bridge. At the bridge both, .sprinted and Ardern gained an advantage of three-quarters of a length. Pickett challenged strongly, but was unable to catch Ardern, who went on to win by half a length. In the second race G. Ardern (?sce.) and V. O'Dalloran (2scc.), moved off to a perfect start. Ardern gained a slight lead, which ho held to the footbridge, where .0 ’HaHoran sprinted and drew level but was unable to gain an advantago, and Ardern forged ahead to pass tho post three-quarters of a length in ( front of O'Halloran. G. Ardern meets F. Ardern in the final, which will bo rowed during the week-end.
