That the, insurance of motor ears should he effected with the payment of a. small extra fee when tin l annual license fees Avern being paid, was a. suggestion nwlo at tbe meeting of the Poverty Bay provincial executive of tho New Zealand Farmers' Union on Saturday afternoon. The president, Mr. F. S, Bowen, had declared that at. present insurance companies were making a fortune out' of motor ear insurance. He said lie considered that the Dominion secretary should ho authorised to collect information on the subject, such as the amounts of premiums collected, and the amounts paid out as a result of accident or fire. .Vfr. .1. B. Benson remarked that now that it was practically compulsory for a motorist to insure against third party risk the rates were too high. The president maintained that the companies were charging £7. when a rale of 10s should be sufficient. A person being given a ride in a car by an obliging owner was entitled to claim damages should he be injure'd by nn accident while lie was riding in the car, whether Urn passenger had asked for a "lift" or not.
