N.Z. RINKS CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. The Dominion bowling tournament was continued yesterday afternoon in ideal weather, with the commencement of post section play for the rinks championship. At the end of the day 59 teams had been reduced to 30, eight being “two-lifers” and 22 “one-lifer” as follow: Two-Lifers: Hosking (Carlton), Stewart (Dunedin). Laurenson (Carlton), Mcßobie (Rormora), .Tenkin (Rocky Nook), Elvey .(Devonport), Truscott (Carlton), Hayden (Taka puna). One-Lifers: Bcynon (Petone),, Parsons (Ponsonby), Stephens (Ivclburn), Bell (Hamilton), London (New Plymouth), Trayes (Mt. Eden), Wooller (Remuera), . Benefield (St. Johns), Smith (Dunedin), Morrison Epsom), Walker (Auckland), Smart (New Plymouth), Dee (Maitai), Jury (Fitzrov), James (Cambridge), Pilkington (Hamilton), Scrivener (Wanganui), Gordon '(St: John's), Kerr (Majftcrton), Harraway (Green Island), Findlay (Mt.. Elccy (Devonport;, played a determined and accurate game and the score was 16 all at tho last head. Bruce and Elvey both drew shots and the Devonport link won by two points. Pilkington beat Redpath (Canterbury). In the third round Harriway (Green Island), last year's winner, triumphed over Osmond (Auckland), after a close game The score was 21 —13. Hurra way continued in winning vein in the second round, boating Rodpatii by 19 points. In the third round Elvey (Dcvonport) beat Harmwav in a great game. Doherty out as the results of defeats by Truscott (Carlton) and James (Cambridge). Naylor (Thermion i, whose record, of 9 wins was unequalled in intcr-scction play, showed a surprising reversal of form, being beaten by Mingins t Epsom) and Trayes (Mount Eden). There was a .margin of one point in the first case and nine in the second. Kerr (Mastorton), who is a wellperformed rinks player, won his first two games and entered the third round to be beaten by Jenkin. . The New Plymouth team, skippered by London, had a close tussle with Wooller (Remuera) and was beaten by 20 to 18. At its second venture it had a big win over Scantlebury (Auckland) and was then badly beaten bv Hosking’s team. ‘Howarth (Canterbury), did not reach the third round, through being defeated by Mcßobie (Remuera), and Skoglilnd (Stratford). Beynon’s (Petone) rink made a remarkable recovery against Parsons (Ponsonby). In the first, round the score at one stage was 22 to 10 against him, but he kept at his task and won by two points—24 to 22. In his next frame he was extended all the way by the crack Hamilton skip, Norrie 8011, but won by three points. Stewart. (Dunedin) boat him in the third round. Stewart, had a close call in the first, round against Clarke (Rocky Nook),, but. was not seriously troubled by Blanchard (Remuera).
