NEARLY DOUBLED
S. AUSTRALIAN DRINK BILL (Received January 17, 1 p.m.) ADELAIDE, Jan. 17. The Government Statistician reports that the South Australian drink bill for 1914-15 to 1920-21 had nearly doubled, due to the substantial inerpase in prices, "while during the same period the quantity consumed per head of the population and the convictions for drunkeness per thousand of the population had decreased considerably. From 1920-21 to 1925-26 the consumption per head had increased only slightly, but there had been a steady increase in convictions. For the year ended June, 1926, the drink bill was £5 7s lid per inhabitant, compared with £5 5s 2d the previous year and £2 1% 2d in 1914-25.-
