NOTES AND NEWS
KDKA RELAYED TO N.Z. INTERESTING PROGRAMME On Tuesday night KDKA, Pennsylvania, broadcast a' .special programme for Australia and New Zealand. The numbers of listeners who are able to receive KDKA direct are in the minority, and) ZBL, Sydney, and 3YA, Christchurch, therefore re-broadcast the programme throughout Australia and New Zealand. A number of Gisborne listeners hooked on to either of these two stations and heard some interesting pecches, interspersed! with musical jiems,
KDKA was swinging rather badly, and reception was not nearly as good as on the previous occasion when messages were transmitted! for the Dominions, but nevertheless the test was highly interesting as a novelty. ft was understood that speeches by New Zealand's Prime Minister. Mr. Coates, and Mr. Henry Ford' were to have been broadcast, but no Gisborne .listeners seem to have heard anything of either speaker. Unfortunately KDKA broke down about half-way through the programme, and a fairly lengthy period elapsed before they came on the air again. KDKA was broadcasting on a low wave, 63 metres, which had the effect of making it impossible for broadcast receivers to pick up the signals, but full satisfaction was found in the relayed messages by 2BL and 3YA. Amateurs possessing" receivers capable of tuning down to the low lengths were able to hook on to the American station direct. ■ •■■ ■
