Underneath the hotel there is to be a garage, while on tho ground floor will bo shops. Tha company has obtained an option over a license for the hotel. The prospects for the coming Royal Show in Auckland were reported upon in hopeful terms at a meeting of the committee of the Agricultural Association. It was stated that notifications of entries had been received from all parts of the Dominion, and when enquiries were made in the Sonth Island with a view to the appointment of judges, it was found 1 that many men who could have been invited to adjudicate could not bo engaged to act in that capacity as they were intending exhibitors. It was decided to erect sheds for sheep and pigs at a cost of £I2OO. A notification was received that the Roval Agricidtuiul Society would provide the championship ribbons.

The transfer of the Gisborne Harbor Board's signal station from the site near the groyne to a position on, tho Kaiti side of the river has now nearly been completed. The necessary foundations have been prepared on the Kaiti side at a point near the breakwater, and just above high water mark, while the station itself has bean removed from its former position on to the breakwater. It had been hoped to transport the building to its -new site early this week, but the operations were held up by the state of the river. The work, however, is to be completed as speedily as possible. Tn the meantime the signal station is housed in the old building at the bottom of Customhouse street.

Officials declare that from the economic standpoint the value of Niagara is probably greater as a scenic wonder, attracting about 1,500.000 tourists nnnually, than as a. creator of electrical power. In tho engineering study the commission will determine the effect of diversion of water flow for commercial purposes, although there is seme doubt as to whether the industrial use of the falls has not contributed seriously to its scenic decline.
