EWES FOR ADDINGTON.
.14,000 ALREADY SHIPPED. MANY MORE TO GO. Very heavy shipments of ewes havo been made to the South Island during the past; few weeks, and already .14,000 sheep have been sent to Addington. Three of the Union Steamship Go’s vessels have been continuously employed in the trade for some, weeks past, and as there yet, remain many thousands of sheep to be shifted, they will be employed for some weeks yet.. There has been a very small mortality amongst those which have been shipped, ami on several of the trips only one sheep was lost out. of the whole load. The greatest, number lost on any one trip was five, and this out of a mob of 5000 must be considered highly satisfaetory. Provided that prices remain firm and the demand is still being experienced in the South, it is estimated that. 20,000 or .10,000 more sheep will be sent away, and the total will in any case lie very much greater than last, year’s. Prices up to the present, have been extremely satisfactory, as much ns 44s being obtained for extra good quality ewes. Some of those shipped away have of course been poor in quality, and these have sold at less prices, but even then there has been a fair margin for the seller.
