STREET LIGHTING.

FURTHER LAMPS SUGGESTED

As the result of a visit of inspection [wid by the Borough Council to the various streets recently, a report regarding additional lamps for street lighting was submitted to last evening’s meeting of the Borough Council. The report was as follows :

Grey street is in need of a light in the centre of the block, between Palmerston road and the Taruhcru river. The light on (he town side of Derby street bridge, in front of Mr. Reid's .requires removal to the opposite side of-the road. The light on the right hand side wants moving to the left, and tile light on left moving nearer the road. Russell street requires one. light, in the centre of its two long-distance blocks. Fox street requires a light in the centre of the block, Sheehan and Whitaker streets. Richardson's Avenue requires a light on tlie left hand side of a defective, culvert. Awapuni road requires a light above the gaol and a light between the present ones. Stanley roa’d needs a light near Hie Waikanae bridge. SYliool road requires a light at the corner. Desmond road lias two lamps, hut one requires moving to north side of Hie school. Tn Root street a lamp should he moved from the corner to the centre of the. street. Huxley and Graham roads each require a light, i Adair road and Ballance street were also inspected. Your committee would suggest that the electrical engineer, Mr. Buswcll, be requested to prepare a report on the cost of the installation of these lights, and also a general report on any benefit that could ho derived by altering tho position of some of the lamps at present in existence.

The Mayor suggested that the report should he referred to the Electrical Com mittee to go into the question with Mr. Buswell.—Carried unanimously.
