LOWEST PRICE: IX U.S. FOR TEN YEAItS. NEW YORK, Oct. 9.—Motorists today are rejoicing in abundant supplies of petrol, which they are able to buy at the lowest prices lor ten years. Yesterday the Gulf Refining Company, the largest of the independent companies operating in this country, slashed the prices by 2d a gallon in tho State of Massachusetts and by l-£d a gallon in other eastern States. It is now quoting petrol wholesale at 6?d a gallon in New England and 7d in New York. Other companies, including the Standard Oil Company, are following suit. The comparatively wet summer his failed to reduce the enormous stocks of petrol accumulated in the enrly part of the vear.
