EGYPTIAN CABINET'S DUTY.
"PRODUCE. THE. MURDERERS."
BRITISH RULE ADVOCATED
LONDON, Nov. 22.—" The Egyptian Cabinet- has a. clear duty to perform, and that is to find Sir Lee Stack's assailants," declares the correspondent of the Times at Cairo.
"It is entirely within the power and the capacity of the Egyptian Government to trace the assailants, and to bring them and their abettors to book," the despatch continues. "The parties responsible for the recent political crimes of a similar nature are known in certain quarters, and there is no doubt that the authorities need only make inquiries in those quarters in order to unmask the real perpetrators, and put an end to these criminal acts."'
At present, the correspondent adds, no investigation can properly bo carried out unless the Egyptian Government is willing to pursue inquiries among the persons who declare themselves members of the political 'party to which Zaghlul Pasha .and his colleagues themselves belong. • i "Should we revoke Egyptian inde-, pendence?" asks the Daily Mai], in a leading article. "It is an experiment that has failed. We should demand that the Egyptian Government shall produce the murderers, whose identity must be known. ;
"Egypt has been treated with im r paralleled generosity, and much of Lord Cromer's and Lord Kitchener's work has been frittered away by British politicians generous to credulity and overconfidence, and this has resulted in a disorderly, corrupt, and \insafe slate. "Britain must either resume control, or leave Egypt altogether. The second alternative is impossible, for Egypt is a vital artery in fhe Empire's line, of communication with India and Australia and New Zealand. Tho instant sequel to an evacuation would be occupation by France or Italy, who have great economic interests there, and would not show the same tolerance as Britain."
