WOOL MARKET.

GOOD KALE AT TIMAEU. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, last night. At the first wool sale to-day nearly 10,000 bales were offered to n full bench of buyers from all quarters. Bidding was spirited, and the market showed a healthier tone compared with recent sales. Thrce-quarterbrecl and scoured wools improved. Merino and best half-breds were on a par with recent sales. Their condition was not first-rate. About 5 per cent, of the total was passed. Average qualities prices were: .Merino 13d to 14id, fine half-bred to 12|d, medium lOd to lljjd, coarse 9d to lOd, fine cross-bred 6J,d to Bd, medium 5d to 6d, coarse. 4d to sd". Pieces sold well.

ANOTHER REPORT. ADVANCE IN CROSS-BREDS. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, last night. At tho first sale of the current season in South Canterbury to-day, 9880 bales were offered, the quality being up to the average of recent years. There was n large attendance; some, of the buyers are understood to be representing Continental firms. The demand showed an improved tone, competition for merinos and cross-bred being animated. Tho bulk were secured for Colonial mills. Cross-bred constituted tho largest class, and the advance represented a penny to a penny three-farthings, prices all round being better than at the recent Christchurch sale. The range of prices was as follows: —Merinos 15-£d to 18Jld, super half-bred 14d to 15|d, first half-bred 12d to 13f d, medium 10d to lid ; supei three-quarter-bred lOd to HJld, first three-quarter-bred 8d to 9.U1, medium 6£d to 7|d, first cross-bred to 7»d, medium sijd to 6£d, coarse 4d to si,d, super pieces lOd to 10£d, half-bred bellies 7-id to Bfd, pieces 4d to s£d, crutchings 3£d to 4id.
