The cricket, match between a visiting team from Hawke's Bay and a team from the town of Gisborne took place at the Oval to-day. O'Connell replaced Stevenson, and Kahlenberg relieved Jones on the bowling! The Hawke's Bay score mounted steadily to 35, at which stage Cave lost his wicket. His batting had been cautions, but his bails were finally sent flying by* a good length ball from Blair. Cave's score was seven runs. He was followed by Dean, who notched 16 prior to hitting

his wicket. O'Brien went next to the crease, and the new partnership yielded satisfactory results, O'C'onnell's falling after he had secured. 45. The score now stood at 83. Hindmarsh joined O'Brjen after the dismissal of O'Connell. Morrison and Moore were now the bowlers, and ;:#he batting opened up. O'Brien showed a "fine variety of strokes, and his hits include J. several fours and a six. Hindmarsh broke the partnership by getting run out. and Davis, who followed, was. dismissed, clean bowled, for a "duck." O'Brien was eventually disposed of, caught by Ellis behind the stumps off Temperton. Signall had joined O'Brien following the 'dismissal of Hindmarsh, and was now partnered by Boiith.
