ROAD CONSTRUCTION.

(To the Editor Of the Herald.) Sir,— -As' regards the proposal to send the engineer employed by the ' Cook County Council on a jaunt to .America, to enquire into road making, - would it not be a great saving of the ratepayers' money to get . a full report- from Mr. Bush, the Auckland City Engineer, who has just returned * from there, ahd who has made full enquiries into'the matter of construction of roads ? I dare say for the expenditure of ten guineas as much information might be gained from that source and without any waste of time as would be got by sending the engineer from here, thus saving time and a few hundred pounds m expenses. . As .a ratepawer psyml? over £600 - m rates I strongly object to what I ■consider, is a waste of time and money, and think th£ engineer cbuld be much better employed here. Trusting the Council will Reconsider this idea of the trip to Anierica and cancel it.^-I : amy etc. t : ' -■*-.' *:.-..y RATEPAS&R.
