DISTURBANCE ON RAND.
NATIVE STRIKERS CAUSE TROUBLE.
(Australian and N.Z. Cabl. Association! (Received April 7, 8.30 a.m.) CAPETOWN, April 5. The native position on the Rand appears to be more serious. The authorities arrested the ringleaders. A large crowd 'of natives congregated m the precincts of; the court. When the court adjourned the natives made a concerted move towards the en-. trance to the prisoners' yard. The police armed with staves charged them. Many arrests were made. Niombers , were inujred. The natives at Vrededorp also caused trouble. After holding a meeting they assaulted ■' a European.. The .. Mounted Police were summoned and; speedily mastered the situation. Later a collision occurred "between Europeans and natives. Three of the natives were shot. Several ' whites were injured. A later Johannesburg* message states that the strike has been settled. The terms are beinff drafted. The native position is well m hand, and all is quiet.
