Mr. David Buick was the Government candidate for the Palmerston seat. He was born m 1848 at Karori, Wellington, and was the son of the late Mr. William Buick, who arrived m New Zealand by the ship Arab m 1841. In 1885 he went to Palmerston, where he purchased a grazing run of 550 acres', ' Mr. Buick was a sportsman of some distinction, ' and still owned several well-known racehorses. He was an exclusive breeder of Romney Marsh ewes. For several years he was . closely associated with various public bodies, and was a past president of the Manawatu Caledonian Society. He entered Parliament m 1908 as member for Palmerston North.
