ROLL OF HONOR.
Lance-Corporal J. Hampton (wounded) is the eldest son of Mr and "Mrs Thomas Hampton, "Cumbrae," Chertsey. He wa. born at Seafield, Ashburton County, and is 35 years of age. He was educated at the Seafield School and brought oip to farming. He enlisted from Gisborne with the 20th Reinforcements, and) left New Zealand at the end of last year. He Mas wounded on November 22nd, andi is in the Walton-on-Thames hospital. . TAKING PLACES OF MEN. VANCOUVER, Nov. 7. After eighteen months in England, Mrs L. D. Nathan, Auckland, New Zealand, who is at Vancouver, stated, that what struck her most forcibly, wa? the way .the women of England ' were standing in the breaches caused by the departure of their men for the battle-line It is marvellous how they have risen to the • occasion," she said and added that she had not the slightest doubt, from what she had heard', that the women would . gladly relinquish, their posts to the men again after the war. "The people are as calm as cucumbers," she said, when speaking of the air raids; - many of which she saw. "It is perf ectly marvellous to wateh them, some of them take shelter while others do not. I liave never seen such wonderful control as they have of themselves. They go about their business and their amusements just as they did before the war, and one cannot heip admiring their self -possesion in the face of an awful danger."
