ATTEMPT TO CRUSH RUMANIA
; AN APPEAL TO THE ALLIES. (The Times.) (Received October 13, 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, October 12. In the Rumanian • Parliament M. Basilesco said lie believed the following are the motives of the Central Powers' attempt to crush Rumania : Victory would mean consolidation, German mastery from the North Sea to the Persian Gulf, invasion of Russia front the south via Bessarabia ; control of the Black Sea; perhaps a. decisive victory m the Rast, also securing vast Rumanian stores j of corn, petroleum, benzine, mineral 'oils, salt, timber, goods, the railway system of the Danube, and transport, besides crqps. He exhorted tfie Allies to do their utmost to protect Rumania, thereby shortening the war and saying millions of lives and hundreds of millions ot money. ■:."-..
