RECRUITS AT THE GHATHAMS.
CSHRISTOHURCIH, this day. Major Bernau; sent by the Government to Chatham Islands to inspect likely recruits, returned to-day. ' He said that about 50 men came forward. Their physique was good. Major Ber nau leaves to-night for Wellington j* and will report the result of hi 9 mfss"i6n to the Government.
