SEAPLANE PLUNGED INTO SEA.
BRITISH AVIATORS DROWNED.
PORTSMOUTH, June 5. Commander s Rice and -Lieut. Thomas S. jCresswell w,ere drowned yesterday ; when ft;.; seaplane m which they were making a flight over • Southampton Wa"ter, suddenly, plunged 'into the sea. Cresswell was acting as pilot and Rice wa& a passenger.. The seaplane -was engaged with. ■ several' other' air-craft m manoeuvring. A torpedo boat • rushed to the spot and , recovered^ Cress^yell 's body, which was* strapped to the seat, but the body, of Rice was not found. The seaplane was one of the ; largest m the naval service and was of the latest model. It had a wing .span of 63 feet, carried a* 200 horse-power engine, and was, equipped with wireless. The condition ofthe.niafchine indicated that the accident was 'due to an explosion.
