ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Per. Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, this day. Mark Franklin aged 64 years, who resided! all his life at Herebertville and Wimbledon districts, died m the hospital while chloroform was being administered to undergo a minor surgical operation-. A verdict was returned at the inquest that death was due to failure of -respiration and heart-failure while ■under an anaesthetic. A boy named Foley, . aged 14 years, was admitted to. the ''hospital at Rotorua, suffering from a wound caused by a pearifle bullet. Several boys were out shooting with a pea- rifle. The weapon was accidentally discharged,* and the bullet entered tlie boy's arm. ~ He is re. ported to be progressing favorably.
Special attention has been paid to the matter of amusements- at the Panama. Exposition. Nothing questionable m the slightest degree will' be tolerated. More than 6000 applications for concessions were received, but over 5800 of them failed to negotiate the moral hurdles set iip by the directors of the Exposition.
