LONDON, February 15. Thero is a terrific gale m the English Channel.
The Land's End coastguards . espied a sliip's punt with three men aboard, a mile off, being rapidly driven shorewards beforo heavy seas. The coastguards summoned a rocket army brigade from four miles away and a tragic raco ensued.
Just as the brigade reached tlie top of the cliff tho. boat Was caught by a huge wave and dashed on the rocks and smashed to pieces, while the crew disappeared m the mountainous seas.
- The three-masted cargo steamer My Own, laden with cement, was struck by heavy seas, and her hatches were smash, ed and admitted the water to the hold.
She sank at Shoreham and the crew of eight were drowned.
The captain clung to the rigging, and was' seen twhen nuorning broke, and rescued by a lifeboat.
The three men who were lost m the sliip's punt are believed to be part of the crew of the steamer, Arnside of Sunderland, which is supposed to have foundered with all hands.
The Arnside earned 12 hands,
