RAILWAY ACCIDENTS.
ANOTHER LEVEL CROSSING FATALITY. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. A fatal accident occurred at the level crossing at Huntly on Saturday afternoon, when John Hurst, a miner, employed by the Taupiri Company, lost his life. He was in the act of crossing the line on foot, when the south-bound Rotorua express came up, struck him, and carried him some distance. Death must have been instantaneous, the body being terribly mutilated. There was a clear and unobstructed view of the train for about half a mile, and how deceased came to walk in front is inexplicable. Hurst was a recent arrival in the Dominion, and had one son and: one married daughter. The serious danger to the public in the existence of level crossings was the subject of discussion at a meeting ol representatives of local bodies held qii Friday evening at Newmarket. Therewere present representatives from the Auckland Automobile Association, Remuera Road Board, Neiv Lynn Town Board, Master Grocers' Association, Drivers' Union, Master Bakers' Association, Mount Albert Ratepayers* Association, Otahuhu Ratepayers' Association, and , others interested. It was decided to forward the following resolution to the Minister for Railways : "That this representative meeting of members of local bodies urges upon the Government the necessity of erecting bridges over the most dangerous level crossings, or to take such steps as are considered advisable to lessen the danger to the public."
