Excitement y/as caused at Wirth's Circus at Parramatta (N.S.W.), when an elephant-driver named Leslie James, a native of Melbourne, aged 22, was knocked down. James was attending to & young bull elephant, which has its tusks chained to its legs' ' to prevent it from using them. It succeeded in knocking the man over with, its head, and then plunged a tusk into his groin. A trainer named Burrows beat the animal off. The injured man was removed to the District Hospital, where several stitches were inserted. James was very weak next morning, and is suffering from shock and bruises.
