POVERTY BAY HUNT.

(By "Myles B Hynde.") The Hounds met oh Saturday, 21st, at Mr Walter Ensor's, near Puna. The day was perfect, and at times quite »hot. Hounds were thrown off in a maize paddock, and found immediately,' but the hare ran along the edge of the river on the shingle, where the scent is always bad, and the hounds were soon at fault. After persevering for a time without result she was given up. Hounds were taken to the maize again, and soon several hares were on foot, but they did not seem inclined to leave the maize; they just kept dodging about, probably because they had been doing themselves too well on the adjoining crop of mangolds. After awhile a more energetic hare made a bolt for the hills, and made up the terrace and across the Whatatutu road, over the large paddock to the left of "the Puhatikotiko homestead, where they checked for awhile. After casting round several fresh hares got up, and hounds were whipped off, and a move was made to Mr Ensor's homestead, where the field were the guests of Mr and Mrs Ensor at lunch. After lunch a move was made to the downs across the river, and two excellent runs were had there. The first run resulted in a kill, and after the hounds had been "blooded," which made them very keen, they were not long in finding another, which put up a fine run, but they were denied a kill owing to fresh hares getting up in the manuka. All the same It was an enjoyable run, and everybody was well pleased with their day out with the hounds. Those present were Mesdames Gaddum, Pattullo. Misses Sherratt and Scott, Messrs W. G. Sherratt (master). E. V. Palmer. R. Sherratt, B. Holdsworth, Ensor, T, Sherratt. Humphreys. M. Campbell . F. Teutenberg, W. L. Rutledge, Dymock, W. McDonald, Masters Humphreys and Dods. Looking on were: Mesdames Fnsor, Couper and Humphreys, and Miss Gore. The hounds meet at Awapuni on Wednesday, 25th, at 11 a.m.
