THE HIGH COMMISSIONER.
— «» (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. \ "Who will be the next High Cominis- i sioner?" was a question put by a reporter this morning to the Hon. Thos. Mackenzie. The attention of- the Prime Minister was tit the same time called lo the reports which appeared m the Opposition pres3 recently, to the effect that Cabinet had considered making an appointment, and had come to the ballot, which resulted m favor of the Hon. R. McKenzie m preference to Sir John FiV.dlay. This report the Prime Minister, emphatically denied. The matter, lie' said, liad not even been considered by, the Cabinet, and there was no likelihood of any appointment to the position of High Commissioner until after Parliament had met.
