PLAID TAFFETAS.
WONDERFUL COLORS IN -THE . .NEW PARIS DRESSES. ..,-■ PARIS, April 12. The .bewildering variety of new and exquisite shades of colors was the'feature of the great array of fashions seen m the enclosure at Auteuil this afternoon, when the presence of M. and Mmc Falliers and a number of official guests drew a large attendance to witness the race for the prize annually given by the President. The sun blazed out of ' a cloudless sky on a throng of ("xquisitel.v gowned women, many of whom had given preference to shot taffetas m all ldnds of shades.
Tliere was a walking costume of a cerulean blue, worn with a Tarn o' Shanter hat. A panier dress of dark green taeffta, worn with a dark blue gauze, scarf, hand-painted with large yellow sunflowers, attracted, much attention. Another panier dress was m smoke -colored taffetas, and a number of costumes, m which Scotch plaid taffetas were employed either as a fabrio or as trimmings, were alsd seen, One dress was made of a grass-green taffeta with brown and blue plaid underskirt and bauds introduced on the body,' and another of plaid taffetas m blue and yellow. ■*-»-■'
Hand-painted taffetas m black, brown, and blue were also seen m many costumes. One, a ■ cigar-brown taffeta painted with blue flowerß, was very striding. White silk brocade coats with paste buttons and lace jabots were worn by many women over black satin dresses, the upper part of the skirt being swathed while' the lower part Avas m accordion pleatings with white insertion. Ono striking costume was of royal blue poplin. A siriiilar colored satin had a skirt buttoning 1 all the way down the front with a white satin panel at the side. There were a number of* tailormade costumes.
