THE SHEARERS' COMPLAINT.
Mr D. McßaOj the Shearers' Union organiser, th an interview wijth a Herald reporter this morning,, stated: sL'The shearers simply asked for what they were 1 'entitled to, viz., £1 per 100. and found. This the employers refused, and told the men that if .they ■'. did 'not accept the/ 23s without' "tucker,' 1 ' which was offered, they would turn the sheep out, and they did so. However, I hope to see tilings; fixed up on m Wednesday, when a conference betwf^i representatives of .both sides*, will be held." Mr Mcßae" went on to say ■ that he sidered such,' conferences the most satis-, factory way of settling disputes. i There they would have practical men on both sides of the table, men who knew what they were talking about. He stated that two other gangs of men had refused to make engagements m the district under somewhat similar circumstances 'to t«he Muriwai trouble, but nothing had been heard of them. "Agitation is not m my line," added Mr Mcßae, "I hate the word.- All' l do is simply to place the > .position before the' shearers at various meetings, and -leave; them.. toViKJecifliit. for themselves. I do not advise! ".them." He thought, however, that he had been working too easy, and unless ■some, agreement was com o to on Wediiesday, he was afrnid he would ha-ve to strike out harder,'
