TR KAIUKA.
St. John's Church, To Karaka, was crowded to the doors last evening, when the Right Rev. Bishop Averill, at the request of the vestry, dedicated the belfry, and porch' recently erected, and administered confirmrttion. The Rev. W. B. Roberts, vicar of the parochial district, presented fourteen candidates to ihe Bishopi The was most imiTessive. -Evening prayer was said by the vicar. Mr Pigott read the first lesson, and the Bishop the second. Miss Elsie Roberts, kindly presided at the organ, the regular organist being one af those confirmed. After evensong the confirmation service was proceeded with, m the course of which the-Bishop preach-, od ari" eloquent and searching, evangelical sermon, based on the text, "Lord, what ivilt Thou have me to do?" His Lordship announced that on Monday night ho would conduct a special - mission Service m the church, to which he gave all a Dressing \ invitation. . He urged .. his hearers to respond to the claims of God upon their lives. Addressing the candidates, he impressed upon them the d'ity of confessing Christ befqre men. He emphasised . the need of reliance on 'be Eftiidance and strengthening, power ot tho Holy Ghost, to enable them to do the will of God m their daily lives, and 3howed how by Divine appointment this strength was given them m confirmation. The Bishop of Waiapu spent to-day iit To Karaka, visiting, and conducts n mission service m the church to-night it 7.30. To-morrow he holds a confirmation for candidates from the Native College at Wafer enga-a-hika. He preaches fit Holy Trinity, Gisborne, m the evening, and on Wednesday will, attend the. garden fete m the Patutahi Domain, which is to be hold m support of St. George's, Church.
