(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTOiN, this day. THE OIL INDUSTRY. The Prime Minister has been approached by Mr Mac Donal- regarding the advisability of inviting Mr J. D. Henry, the London oil expert, to visit ; New Zealand. Sir Joseph Ward has promised to give the matter consideration. WOOL BRANDS. The necessity for the. introduction of a system of registration of wool brands, m order to. prevent duplication m the branding' of wool clips, was recently given some prominence m Gisborne. The subject lias been brought before the notice of the Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister m charge of industries and commerce, who has promised to give the matter careful consideration. . ■ . . POSTAL FACILITIES. The settlers of Rakauroa have been urging that postal . notes a&d money orders should be issued frbiri the Bakauiroa post office. The Prim© Minister has given Mr Mac Donald an assurance that ho will make inquiries into the subject. TELEPHONE EXTENSION. Representations have- been made to the Postmaster-General concerning the construction of a telephone Mire between Te Araroa and Whangaparoa. GRANTS APPLIED FOR. Amongst the . numerous applications lodged with the Minister tor Public Works for consideration m the . Public Works Estimates are the following requests : Grarit of £iSO for Kaiau road, Tolaga Bay; grant of £150 for Te Karaka-Tawhero road, Te Araroa ; grant of £500 for Armstrong road, betweeri Waipara and Mangatu. OTOKO SCHOOL, ; A request was recently made for the granting of an assistant teacher for the Otoko railway works school. \ The Hon. Mr Buddo, the acting-Minister for Education, . has adyised t Mr AJacDonald that the regulations make, np provision for increasing the grade of the school, but the circumstances .will be taken into consideration at the end of the year, and if the attendance will allow, the . request will be attended to. Association .recently approached .Mr MacDonald regarding the reservation of lariding, places at ; Mataika.Ara and Onepoto, beyond Te. Araroa. At the direction of the Minister for Marine, the Association has, been asked to corifer. with the native owners on the subject. ■ PARK AT OTOKO. An effort is being made by the member for the Bay. of, Plenty to secure the reservation oi a public park at.Oioko, for the use not only of the settlers of the surrounding district, but as a picnic ground for the residents of Gisborne. With railway facilities to the spot., such a reserve would n6 doubt A become a popular resort during, the-, summer months. The request has been made to the Minister for Lands to provide, m cutting up run 47, for a 100-acre reserve near the station, . together with the reservation of 150 acres as a scenio reserve. ' . When the Police Department's vote of £178,276 was put through iby the House early on Saturday morning, the Prime Minister mentioned that the Minister of Justice and Commissioner of Police were preparing «, scheme under which it was believed substantial benefit would result to the police force, with due regard to the financial aspect.
