ROADS" AND BRIDGES
The flood must do considerable damage to the roads throughout the district. A report was received this morning that the new bridge at Pakarne was m great danger, there being great pressure against tho centre spun. The new Waionioko bridge was washed nyvay. There is ia washout at Carroll's bridge, on the # .
Ormond road, and another at the Mangapapa bridge. These do not interfere with traffic, but are dangerous after nightfall. There is also a big washout at the Waterfall creek, on the Wai main road. In addition to the slip on. Kaiti lull which damaged Mr Scott's residence, another slip is reported to have occurred on the same hill nearer town. A big slip came down on the Riverside road, near some new cottages r-ecently erected on the slopes of the hill, opposite Mr Willoclv's/ residence. Another extensive slip has occurred at Makarori hill, on tho Coast road, completely blocking ■traffic, and there is a smaller one on the Tatapoitri hill. Between MakarorL and Ok itu several culverts have- been washed out.
