THE NEW BUILDING. ] On Monday the business of the Bank if New South Wales, which for many ' /ears has been conducted in the building iext to Messrs Williams and Kettle's premises, will be transferred to the new' chambers which have been erected on the corner of Gladstone road and Peel ; street, i The new buiiding, whicli occu-j pies a prominent position m the business centre of the town, is a handsome twostoried brick structure, in the 1 Italian Renaissance style. The eastern walls ire finished off with stucco,, and with its., heavy cornices and pediments -the building presents a solid appearance. The main entrance is from Gladstone road. A heavy pair of panel doors'open into a vestibule, which provides ah at-, tractive entrance with its tiled floor and panelled dado of figured r kauri. .To .the left of the .vestibule glass screen doors open into the banking chamber. This: is a very fine compartment, and measured 44ft_by 28ft. It is well lighted and ventilated, and has a bright appearance. Ample space has been provided for the public. Provision has been made for two tellers if required. The accountant is screened off to the left/ and behind the tellers' quarters ample accommodation is provided for the clerks. .The necessary fittings have beeh -installed on an elaborate scale, and all conveniences are. provided for the transaction of the bank s business 1 . Tlie clerk's compartment is provided with a handsoirie tiled grate and well-designed mantel with panelled hood. The ceiling, which is divided'! into twelve bays with heavy beams, is finished with 'Wunderlich steel, which is tastefully picked out in the painting. A .figured; kauri dado sft high, runs right round the chamber, and above the dado the walls are finished in Keene -cement. The manager's room, 19ft by, lift, is situated to the left of the public quarters. It is nicely fitted upi a>id contains a tiled grate and hearth, and also has a steel ceiling with a heavy cOrnice." ' Off the bank chamber there is. a spacious strong room 12ft x 10ft. fitted .with a Chubb's patent dooy. There .are two small rooms off the clerkiV room; and these are utilised a.3 a cloak and hat room and stationery room. At the 'rear of the binding there is a concrete yard, which contains patent conveniences and a. septic tank. The drainage' has been catered for, on an up-to-date scale. The ' entrance to the first floor is > made by a separate door to the left' of the main entrance, and! up a flight of stairs. From" ithie'; entrance a small passageway also leads To tlie rear of 'the i bank chamber. ' -v.'; The stairway letfds on to a spacious landing, and along th?. front, of th© building, overlooking Gladstone road, is a suite of three fine offices^ for letting purposes. The'- back portion of the first floor contains'- two bedrooms, a sitting room, and bath, room for; the use of the clerks, who reside on the premises. The latter room is fitted out in an up-to-date manner, and a bath heater has beenNnstalled. With irhe exception of the rooms already mentioned the interior walls of the building arte finished in. .Keene cement paintbd, arid the fittings, are alt "heart of kn-u'ri. The handsrinie structure was designed' by Messrs' -'Crichtbh and McKay, architects, Wellington, a,nd Was erected under the supervision of Mr P. H. Graham, a local architect. Mr J.
