The Unionists m Parliament have appointed four committees to prepare a report and a n amendment to tho Budget.' It is considered that Mr Lloyd-George, Chancellor of tho 'Exchequer, has utterly ignored the balance between direct and indirect taxation, m order to serve a party purpose. .There are several complaints that the Budget is conjectural as to yield. . It is persistently reported that sMr*5 Mr* Lloyd-George anticipates a large surplus m 1910, thereby enabling the removal of considerable taxation, and tliat the Government will! then appeal to the country. ■ ' t ' ' ' ; Mr C. F. G. Masterman, Libera^ member for West Ham North, speaking at Stratford, said that the Budget tvus the biggest instrument of social reform ever devised, and a triumph! for. Socialism.Every glass of whisky drunk .Would add, a halfpenny for a Dreadnought. v (Received May 3, 8.5 -a.m.) LONDON, May 2. * The Labor party approve of the Budget, but oppose the tobacco duty .
