INVERCARGILL, this day,
At. a meeting of the executive of the Farmers' Union the following remits, among others, to be submitted to the annual conference, were received : Tliat a protest be entered against the alteration of the size of groin sacks ; that strong exception be taken to the action of the Southland Acclimatisation Society in securing the protection Of hares ; that imported timber be placed on the free list, and no distinction be made in railway charges as between imported and New Zealand v timber ; that stops be taken to > secure imriiigration suitable for farm servants, especially ploughmen ; that first-class railway trucks, at.seeoiid rates, be ullowsd* to farmevsi that when valuations are being made a . valuer should, be appointed by the farmers ti act Jn vconjunotion witb-the Government valuer ;". that taxation ' on land, arid on money lent on, land, be put on 7a more equitable basis. .-One-, brrinch. wilUsub--mit a -motion regretting the Dreadnought action without first consulting Parlia,- . merit.- Tlie executive will submit as a remit that the -contract system of iiublic j. works'. be reverted to as more satisfactory", than co-operation ; that injustice is caused by taxation of i growing flax ; that a protest be entered against tho continuance in case of valuations of unimproved rural lands; that the Government;: be urged to amend the Jaw's so -as i to enable every , settler to have, the; option of acquiring a freehold of lands for settlement. It is understood that the dairy regulations will be generally reviewed and dealt with.
