Captain Cornwall, of the New Zealafifh Shipping Cb.'s Kaipara, reports '"that J when passing White! sland on Thursday-J morning at 2 , o'clock pn her way from Auckland to Gisborne, . an inspiring i scene was witnessed. The Island appeared to be in eruption, high columns = of black smoke and flames of fire were seen j shooting us : - continuously from the Island. The magnificent sight could be seen 32 miles away. '
