Matthews (County Council), Mann, Somervell, Sawyer, Williams, Sheridan, Miller, Bright, Whinray, Harding (Boiough). Adjutant Dickens, Salvation Army, Gisborite, asked the Board to assist him with a, small grant from the funds 'to- . wards helping needy eases. J He, had had a good number of calls for help, .and' if the Board could see their way to aid him" a little he would esteeui it a great kindness. He would always be willing to gi ve an account how such- money was spent. — The ■ Mayor said they had not been called on to do anythin'g like- this before.— Cr Sawyer, said -he thought that i f they could do it the help should be given. — Cr Somervell was of opinion it would be a dangerous precedent to grant anyone funds to spend at their own option. They all sympathised- with the Army's work, but" it was the Board's work to deal with such cases.— The Mayor ' said there were cases -which wore urgent and had to be dealt with before the Board could meet.— Cr Matthews held that to grant the request \vould be allowing others to usurp the functions of the 13oard. — Crs' Mann aud~Williams took a similar view to Cr Somervell, and it was decided that the request could jiot be granted.— The Mayor said the letter was more in the way of enquiring whether the Board could give help.: The Hospital Trustees forwarded a requisition on the Board 'for £2260 to provide for expenditure for the twelve months ended. March 31st, 1908.— 1t was decided to comply with the requisition. — The secretary laid the estimates of rereceipts and expenditure before the Board, showing that the requisition on the local bodies this year would be £1427 on Cook County Council (valuation £3,500,000 atl-lOthd in the £), and on Borough Council £408 (valuation £1,000,000). — The estimates were adopted. A request was made that , the Board defray the cost, £5, pf an operation on the throat of a boy who was being kept by the Board.— lt was decided that the boy should be sent to the Hospital, the Board defraying the cost of the opcra- • tion. y Crs Miller and Sheridan 'reported . that the Home was progressing satisfactorily. The Hon. Captain Tucker aivdrCt Bright were appointed a .visiting ..As>nt« mittee for the month.
