At a recent meeting of the Lancashire County Council, Dr. Sephton stated that the house flvr was largely responsible for diarrhoea. "If mothers would only keep milk for the children m clean and covered vessels to prevent the house fly getting at it, the infantile mortality would be speedily reduced.''

Some straw hats, into which enters not an atom of straw, consist of narrow paper strips dyed yellow. Artificial sponges can be made of paper pulp. There also exists a device for paper thread to be used m sewing shoes, and Chardonnet's artificial silk is made on a basis of paper pulp. In Norway there is a church, seating a thousand persons, built entirely of paper, belfry and all ; while paper bullets may soon see the light. '
