TECHNICAL EDUCATION.

A meeting of the Teclinical School Committee was held last" evening at the school. Messrs J. Cblemari and W. Morgan (secretary), of the Higih School Board of Governors, were present m addition to the following members of tlie Gisborne School Committee : Me*rs Somervell (Chairman), Sawyer. Spence, Briglil, Darton, Fromm, and Revs. Griffen and Grant. "

Tlie'. secretary reported receipt from the Tourist Department of a serie_ of photos of New Zealand scenery, which would be framed 'and hung m the art room, Messrs Sutton and Sons, England, had forwarded a number of specimens of grasses and seeds.. Tlie Committee passed votes of thanks to the donors, and also to Messrs Williams and J_ettle for conveyance of the cabinet of grasses and seeds to Gisborne, It was resolved to start a special art class, call a meeting of those desirous df •betiomma: students, and arrange for the ob tainment of : an instructor's services.

Tlie resignation .of Miss L. Beere, shorthand instructor, was received. It was decided to call for applications for the combined "post of instructor of typewriting and shorthand. '

At ihe request of members, and for the information of the Committee, the secretary detailed the history and work of the technical classes since their beginning.. The regular Visiting Committee was instructed to inspect and report on technical work m progress; It was pointed put that tlie School Committee was responsible for the work of the Technical School, and that m the past too much of the burden had been placed on the shoulders of the Gotejr_ors.
