AUCKLAND, this day. Iv reply to tlie request of a large and influential deputation, Mr Arthur Myers has consented to nomination for the Mayoralty of Auckland. The ferry steamer Eagle, carrying3oo or 400 people, collided with the Harbor Board's dredge yesterday, when the former was approaclihig the city wharf llirough a narrow entrance. She was struck on tlie sponson. near the bow, ho damage being done to the ferry boat, save a large hole m the sponson. Tlie dredge was unhurt. Tlie dredge was moving very slowly at the. time. The two vessels struck nearfy bow to bow on. The ferry boat went astern immediately and averted further damage. ROTORUA, this day. Mr Brett, of the Auokland Star, has been elected Chairman of the Press Association for the current year.
NAPIER, this day. Mr Holland estimates his loss m connection with the fire at £700, while the insurances are only £300, of wliich £200 is m the Sun and £100 m the Manchester. The property was owned by Mr H..R. Holder, of Woodviille, and no details of the insurance are available.
MARTON, this day. A little girl named' Rene Milverton, aged five years, fell between the platform and carriages at Marton station, this morning and was killed. She was travelling from. Palmerston to Taihape with her grandmother.
WELLINGTON, this day. The Methodist Conference continued today. A congratulatory telegram was ordered to be sent to Mr and Mrs Charles Duke, of Dunedin, on their golden wedding. Congratulations were received on the proposal to found a young men's forward movement. ,
NELSON, this day. William Akerstin, ex-cduncillor, an old resident, died at the Port to-day, aged 70 He built the first wharf at Nelson, also many of the early bridges. He was superintendent of the harbor works m the pioneer days, and also famous for serving a process on "Bully" Hayes", the wellknown South Sea. pirate, and brought him to Nelson m a whaleboat.
