Tirmpany Bros.' Pnhia sawmill was completely destroyed by fire last, night. It was insured for £600 in the Commercial Union, but the loss will largely exceed this amount. The mill was destroyed a year ago, and a mew building had been ju.st erected.
A deputation of about 70 business men and settlers waited on Sir Joseph Ward to-day and urged! the construction of the Edievale to Roxburgh line. The Minister saidl there wea-e several important uncompleted railways in Southland, andi as there- was only a certain amount available for railways they would have better prospects of being dealt with reasonably by Cabinet if they confined their attention to one, 01' at the most two, lines. He promised to place the matter before the Minister for Works.
