A RIVER'S FREAK.
NEBRASKA CITY DESERTED BY THE MISSOURI. CHICACJO, Dec. 8. Owing to the. recent heavy Hood, the main channel of the- Missouri River at Nebraska City has been completely changed. Last Thursday Nebraska^City bordered the river. On Friday the river /•■ was tliree miles distant, its former channel being a large tract of land comprising several thousand acres. The change took place on Thursday night, and was caused by an ice dam forming several miles below the town, ,i Avhicli diverted the course of the river. :M' Several -steamers and other craft were ~ }eft stranded miles from the river, while the warehouses and piers along the former river front are rendered useless. The railway bridge across the former river now spans dry land. The towns is also deprived of its water supply. The Missouri River divides Nebraska from lowa, .and the change in the channel has annexed a large area of lowa land to. Nebraska, which includes many good farms. Tlie occupants of this land, formerly citizens of lowa, now become citizens of Nebraska. The Missouri River varies in width from 1,500ft and 2.000 ft in its course io .3,000ft at its mouth. \
