POVERTY BAY GOLF CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above club was held on Friday, when there was a fair attendance of members. Mr Reynolds . was voted to the chair. The following new members were elected : — Mesdames Mason and Ackland Hood, Miss Mills, Messrs Symiiß, McLeod, McKay, Cole, and 6. Willock. The treasurer's report and balance-sheet showed that the Club was in a sound financial position, although the actual number uf members was less than in 1898, There were 76 members in 1899. The weather was much against the game at the start of last season. For about two months almost every Saturday was wet. A visit from a Hawke'B Bay team in the middle of the season gave a fillip to the game, and from that on till the end of the season great interest was taken by members. The record for the links was lowered several times, and now Btanda at 91, a score made by Mr H. Bull. Ab Colonel Bogey 'b score has been hitherto reckoned as 100, it is probable that he will be credited with something better this season.

The following officers were elected for the coming season : — President, Mr 6. McLean ; vice-president, Mr Reynolds ; captain, Mr Willock ; committee,- Messrs A, W. Rees, Grant, Morgan, Cuthbert, and H. Guthrie-Smith ; secretary and treasurer, Air Mann ; auditor, Mr Cargill ; green committee, Messrs Reynolds, H. Bull, and Willock. The opening day was fixed for March 17th. The following resolutions woro passed : (1) to join the New Zealand Golf Council ; (2) to add verandahs to one side of each of the Club houses ; (3) to mako the entrance fee five shillings for the season, members only playing in a few matches to pay one shilling for each, as before.

Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Reynolds for a series of five prizes given last season ; to Mr Moeller, of Napier, for clubs given last season ; to Mr W. Miller for the promise of a prize to the value of one guinea for the coming season ; to the occupiers of the ground played over for their kindness in allowing the Club to use the grounds ; and to the ladies for providing tea and refreshments on match days.

Everything points to a successful season. The work of preparing the course will be started at once. IL is probable that the grass through the green will be on the long side at first, but the putting greens should be in better trim than usual. The details of matches have not yet been decided, but it is probable that they will be on similar lines to those of last year.
