THE SITUATION IN CAPE COLONY.
NEW ZEALANDERS HAVE A SHARP FIGHT WITH THE ENEMY. THE BOERS LOSE HEAVILY. Capetown, Dec. 18. Two thousand Boers occupy a kopje parallel to. the railway at Arundel. Daring a night march tbo Australians and New Zealanders discovered the Boers poßted in a pass to the number of 1200. A sharp fight ensued, the artillery -Dally compelling the enemy_ to seek cover. The British casualties were slight. Lieutenant Cox, of the New South Wales ' Lancers, had his horse shot under him. The Boers lost heavily. (Received Dec. 19, 9.55 a.m) , The enemy are reinforcing and entrenching Stormberfj. . Two arrests have been made in connection with Major-General Gatacre's reverse at Stormberg. Four thousand Boers are massed at Colesburg. Australian residents at Capetown are providing comforts for their countrymen in the field.
