WELLINGTON, To-day.

At a public meeting, about 150 being present, mostly business men, it was decided to give Mr Ward a public welcome on his return, followed by a banquet. During May 1503 persons arrived in the colony and 2359 left. At the Magistrate's Court a woman was fined 10s and costs for assaulting a teacher io the Timaru school because he punished her son. She complained that he boxed her boy'g ears when he was suffering from disease of the ears.
