WAITEMATA ELECTION.
MR. MONK UNSEATED. Auckland, to-day. — The Waitemata election petition case was continued yesterday, the most important witness being young Monk, who admitted drinking with the woman Clements and Drummond, and of having given them cigars, also of drinking with others, but denied that he provided them with refreshments with the view of innuencing their votes. He gave Drurampnd two shillings out of a friendly feeling. The case was resumed to-day. This afternoon.— The Waitemata election petition case came to an abrupt termination this afternoon. Counsel came to a settlement, and when the Court met counsel for Monk intimated that it was decided not to proceed with the defence, as he considered it hopeless after the recent evidence. The Bench said they would report that the Beat be voided, and that Monk be disqualified foe one year.
