THE GISBORNE BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
Thk Committee of this Society met yesterday afternoon, in the Court-house. There were present-— Veu. Archdeacon Williams (in the chair), Meadames Eaßt, O'Meara, Misses Nesbitt and Williams, and Rev. J. McAra* Secretary. Accounts to the value of about £5 were passed for payment, when the Treasurer reported that thera remained in hand a balance of only £1 7s. Id. After full consideration, it whs decided to make an appeal to the community for subcriptions, and the town was divided into districts, and each district was assigned to a member of Committee as follows : — No. 1. — Gladstone Road, north side, from Read's Quay to Bright Street — Mrs. O'Mcarn. No. 2. — Gladstone Road, north side, from Bright Street to Cobeu Street — Miss Neabitt. No. 3. — Gladstone Road, north side, from Cobden Street to Roebuck Street— Mrs. W. L. Williams. No. 4.— Gladatono Road, north side, from Roebuck Street to Read's Gate— Mrs. Mountfort. No. 5. — Gladstone Road, south side, from Read's Quay to Peel Street — Mrs Berry. U o> 6. — Gladstone Road, south side, from Peel Street to Cobden Street —Mrs. East. N Ot 7. —Gladstone Road, south side, from Cobden Street to Read's Gate —Mrs. Hy. Pollen The Secretary was asked to provide each member of Committee with a collector's book ; and it was arranged that the town and country should be canvasssed for contributions as soon as possible.
