A man, named Daniel Smith, was killed on Saturday at Matakaua by a falling tree. The New Zealandia with 'Frisco mails, arrived yesterday. DUNEDIN. This Day. Mr. Mansford, District Judge and Resident Magistrate at Wellington, died at Port Chalmers on Saturday. He arrived in the Hawea to undergo an operation for an affection of the throat, but only survived the voyage a few hours. He was the oldest solicitor in New Zealand, and was greatly respected here. The condemned Chinaman, Ah Lee, now seems to realise his position.
