CORRESPONDENCE.
[Wfidont liolil ourselves res.vimiV.e' fm- opinions oxpressorl l>y coiTospou'lentP.] [To the Editor of the Herald.] Sir,— l wish you would write a letter, showing up the mad, foolish, and ruinous expense of the "ball-room costumes" we Colonials indulge in. My trouble is |C this wise." There is another ball coming oft, and my better half is pestering the life out of me to buy her a new dress, which, honestly, I can't afford, but T can get these things on credit. Says she, " no,"" I won't its so unpleasant. I tell her we will go if she wears the one that she goes to " Church " in, but it is not good enough. Sir, there is room for reform in our " ball-room costumes," and an association should be started to prohibit and condemn such expensive finery. And the hours also, might well be altered, there is no reason why the opening hour should not commence at 7.30. p.m. and end at 12 o'clock. — I am, &c, A Working Man.
[To the Editor of the Heuld.] Slr, —Would you kindly inform me in your next issue on what river the championship boat race, between Hanlan and Elliott was rowed and oblige. Yours &c. , Subscriber. [Can any of our readers oblige us with the information ?]
