Waerenga-a-hika Races.
» The attendance would probably number about 250 ; of these a large proportion consisted of horsemen. There were not a dozen vehicles on the ground. The admission money was preposterously high, considering the depressed times, the scarcity of money, and the poorness of the "show." A defaulting bookmaker, who had been disqualified from the grand stand and enclosure, would not leave the ground when ordered. As the stewards did not wish to see a disturbance, and possibly a fight, the man was allowed to remain.
