The directors of the Freezing Company urged upon the Commissioner of Customs the abolitiDn of Stock Tax, declaring that otherwise they could not carry out their projected industry ; but he held out no hope that he would be able to accede to their request. SYDNEY. Tuesday. A delegate from Melbourne to a meeting of the Mutual Provident Society is to be held to-morrow, himself holding a thousand proxies has arrived for the purpose of opposing abolition of proxy voting to be proposed at the meeting. BRISBANE. Tuesday. The Government have received an offer from an English company to lay a cable from Ceylon to Point Parkerin, Gulf Carpentaria.
