The following has been forwarded to us for publication : — Te Awanui, March 26, 1880. Penehamine Tuhaka has represented to his people the difficulty that Captain Ferris and Mr. Berry have had to contend with in their late trip to the Australian Colonies, and they have unanimously agreed that they will be satisfied with one-half of the money that they were to receive ; and likewise beg to thank publicly Captain Ferris and Mr. Berry for the universal kind treatment that they have received at their hands whilst in the said Colonies. Penehamine further begs to state that it is through Captain Porter representing to him in a clear and straight-forward manner that he and his people have understood the difficulties that Captain Ferris and Co., have had to contend with. Signed by all the Maories who went with Capt. Ferris. Penehamine Tuhaka begs to say that he ifl a loyal Maori, and always has been, and is a lover of fair play, and begs further to state that he is perfectly sure that it is no fault of Captain Ferris' that there is any difficulty about the payment to the Maories for their late trip to Australia. To Captain Ferris— Please insert this in the Poverty Bay Herald, and oblige yours truly, Penehamine Tuhaka. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (Before M. Price, Esq., R.M.) W. Finneran, for tethering a horse on the public road, wag fined ten shillings. Debt Cases. Searle v. R. Cooper. — Adjourned case. Mr. Ward, junr., for the defendant. Judgment for plaintiff for £2 with costs. W, King v. D. Ross.— Adjourned case. Was further adjourned at request of plaintiff's solicitor to April 6th. j. Mclntosh v. A. Bromfield. — Upon the application of Mr. Robinson for the plaintiff, the case was adjourned till Friday. Parnell and Boylan v. Bromfield. — Claim £12. Mr. Robinson for plaintiff. Judgment for amount with costs. Two cases of Stuart v. Mulloolly for £10 each, and Graham and Co. v. Mahuika, claim £44 12s. 3d., on the application of Mr. Cuff for the plaintiffs, were adjourned till April 6th. Stevenson v. Hat well. — Claim £3 4s. for rent. Judgment for amount. Bank of New Zealand v. Burns. Judgment summons, £37 15s. 6d. 'Mr. Ward for plaintiff. Mr. Cuff for defendant, stated that the plaintiffs had agreed to accept payment by three instalments. Order made accordingly, or in default one month's imprisonment. W. H. Tucker v. J. Seymour.— County rates, £31 Ds. Judgment for amount.
